The average American generates 4.5 pounds of trash a day with enormous environmental consequences, learn how you can be a part of the solution at this event all about being green in Philadelphia.

Join YIP and Keep Philadelphia Beautiful to learn about how the City of Philadelphia, private industry, and nonprofits are working together to move our city towards more sustainable waste disposal practices and systems — and gain valuable insight into how you can be a part of the solution.

Hear from these local experts during our panel discussion:

  • Phil Bresee, City of Philadelphia Recycling Director
  • Tim Bennett, Founder and President of Bennett Compost
  • Charles Raudenbush, Manager at Waste Management

The second half of this event will include an interactive component where you will have the opportunity to stop by several stations and learn about local resources and opportunities -- whether it be to make or do something, using easy-to-find or reusable resources, and becoming more involved with nonprofit organizations.

Participants will learn about a variety of sustainable practices and policies taking place in Philadelphia.
The evening will feature experts from various sectors highlighting success stories of sustainable practices, such as composting. Participants will learn how to moderate consumption, engage in wiser use and reuse of resources, and take environmental action.

WHYY is within several blocks of multiple public transportation options, including the Market Frankford Line (8th Street or 5th Street), the Broad-Ridge Spur (Chinatown Station), SEPTA buses (17, 33, 38, 44, 47, 48), SEPTA Regional Rail (Market East Station), PATCO (8th Street Station), and several NJ Transit buses.
