ABOUT ABOUT

Young Involved Philadelphia is pleased to present a virtual event introducing this community to movement building and organizing.  There is so much happening in the world and one thing that has consisitently come up within our community is: How to get inolved? How can my voice make a difference? By becoming an organizer or by joining an organization building around an issue you are passionate about. As an organization focused on civic engagement, introducing this community to organizing work and movement building is the right thing to do. It's mission aligned and we know this is information you can use moving forward.

This event will be 40 minutes so come with questions and invite your friends. Find a description of this event from the host. The virutal link can be found HERE and you will also recieve an email from [email protected] before the event with the link and additional information.  **This event will be recorded.**

An Introduction to Organizing and Movement Building

Organizing work and social justice movements have many forms and styles, but what is core to all of them is the goal of creating a shift in power to create better outcomes. This conversation will focus on identifying how, why, and when power shifts, and review the things that get us there - from protests, to relationship building, advocacy, and elections. It will also focus on steps you can take to figure out where your political home is - where you will take action in this moment.

Presentation by: Judy Robbins

Judy Robbins is a National Organizer at Bend the Arc: Jewish Action, where she works with progressive Jews across the country to organize and advocate around social & racial justice issues in the U.S. including fighting white nationalism, immigration reform, and criminal justice reform. Prior to her current work, Judy has organized around public education, food access, and electoral issues. Judy lives in Philly, where she was born and raised, and views organizing work as something that everyone can contribute to. She recently started a newsletter, titled Where Do We Go, to share learnings and resources on movements, organizing, and taking action. You can find more information and subscribe at wheredowego.me.
