City Council Candidate Convention

ABOUT ABOUT

Philadelphia City Council decides how to spend $4.5 BILLION every year. They also decide what can get built in this city, where, and when. Council can veto bike lanes, change trash collection, and raise or reduce parking tickets. And this spring, more than 15 candidates are running for Philadelphia City Council. Do you know who they are? Do you know where they stand on issues that are important to you? Do you know who you’re going to vote for? No? It’s a lot for any sane person to keep track of. But don’t worry--we have the perfect event for you.

Please join us at the first ever City Council Candidate Convention, organized by Young Involved Philadelphia (YIP) and the Committee of Seventy and hosted by WHYY. This is a great opportunity for young Philadelphians to meet with, speak with, and learn more about the candidates running for council. All of the declared City Council candidates have been invited to engage and hear from their current/prospective constituents (That’s you!).

  • This event is open to the public and is completely nonpartisan--YIP and the Committee of Seventy do not endorse any candidates;
  • Don’t know the issues? Don’t worry. YIP and our partners will have a cheat sheet available for everyone; and
  • Attendees will have the opportunity to register to vote or update their voter registration.

Admission to this event is free, but pre-registration is required.  Lite fare, beer and wine, and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided. Doors will open at 5:30pm.
